Race Report: Kulukelo Gravelier 2026
Terima kasih from the @WeekendGravelCrew, for organising the first successful gravel race for Perak! 🎉
While Team Verssusika takes a well deserved rest, like many of the solid riders who've shared their experience...
We felt that of all the Malaysian races we’ve joined, this is one of the surprisingly well-thought-out race. May be Perak's first, but you guys did your homework.
Here's why...
Race course
1. Good ratio of gravel:tarmac
2. Long stretches of gravel was unreal
3. Clever to have climbs & technicals upfront to separate the pack early
4. Surprise sand traps at the end to spice things up
5. Understood that we were racing across different property, so trucks and such happen. This randomness also makes gravel fun as there's the element of luck!
Support
1. Race briefing that was actually useful and detailed; indicating what to look for at each distance
2. Great water point at 49km with solid supply of drinks and “cold showers” 😂
3. Couldn’t find the “shop” at 69km... unless its in a house? 😛
4. Alert Race Marshalls at key junctions
5. Well-placed direction arrows at key turns
Start & End Point
1. Lovely chill space for start and end with expo, medic and F&B
2. Merchandise, Musette and Medals were on point. Nothing wasteful, all tastefully done!
3. Even bought a t-shirt “thank god for gravel bikes” while the official race mesh tee and jersey was tastefully designed (but I couldn’t keep buying!)
